It's always hard to handle getting older. But Harold thinks he's doing a pretty great job. Happy 28th Birthday, Harold Goldstein Library! And it seems our patrons enjoyed the birthday cake celebration, too -- the cake was all gone within 30 minutes!

If you missed the first edition of LIVE! @ Goldstein, you missed out. The band, which is entirely composed of workers from the Goldstein and Strozier libraries, really put on an excellent show. Here is a short video of them playing a tune in the library. Enjoy! We really want somebody to win. So we're doing this: first to solve wins the adorable domo ninja doll picture to the left. You don't even have to be in Tallahassee to do this -- we'll mail you the doll if you win! If you forgot where the first clue is, it's on this blog. CLICK HERE to start the hunt! Goldstein is starting a new series this semester: LIVE! @ Goldstein! Each month we'll be inviting performers to come to the Goldstein Library on Friday evenings and display their talents. Right now we're scouting talent for the next coming months, so if you would like to perform here, let us know by email: [email protected].
We're starting the series this Friday, March 22 at 7pm with URBAN SUPERSTITION. The band is composed of librarian musicians & friends, including our very own Mackenzie Lightfoot on guitar and vocals! Come by to rock out and have a good time with us. First, the Rules: 1. All items for this scavenger hunt can be found online through the Goldstien's website, blog, social media sites, or other FSU library-related sites. You do NOT need to be present in the library at any point to win the scavenger hunt. 2. You may ask the staff for help finding a particular website, such as the Goldstein's Facebook. However, the staff will not help you to solve the clues themselves. 3. The first person or team to solve the Virtual Scavenger Hunt will be interviewed by the Goldstein Staff, their interview will be posted on this Blog, and they will win a sort of trophy... Winners need not come to the library to receive prizes (We'll mail them to you!). 4. No cheaters allowed. Not sure how you could cheat, but we are prohibiting it anyway. Them's the rules. Enjoy.

So not only can you occupy our library to study, you can occupy it to get rid of that awful stress. Here's a video of GA Meredith Ross explaining our Stress Free Zone, complete with an unidentified sleeping patron. Sound is very low, so you may have to turn it up a bit to hear: So come by and have a great time exploring our stress free zone!
And announcing the winners:
1st Place: Ozma of Oz (2nd row down, right column) 2nd Place: Christmas Elephants (bottom row, middle column) 3rd Place: Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (top row, left column) Loyal Goldstein followers: it's the moment you've been waiting for: the Goldstein Chronicles 1.2! As with 1.1, this week we focus on cacapriciousness, the stroke of whimsy that comes with the territory of working in a library. 1.2: Is that Book for Real?by Rob Stephens, Goldstein GA In a single librarian's lifetime, s/he will handle thousands upon thousands of books. Personally, most of them won't don't make a lasting impression on me -- another book about vampires, a nondescript cover, a romance novel -- sometimes I don't even look at the titles of the books when I shelve them, just the call number. But then there are days when I see a book and it truly blows my mind, to the point of no return. In other words, there's no unseeing this book, and it will change the way I think for the rest of my life. This happened to me today, folks, and it was scary. What I'm about to show you is not for the weak-minded: Here's a short teaser to whet your appetite:
Santa is receives two magic blades as an honor gift from a samurai friend. Things are well on their way toward another smooth and successful Christmas. But then an angry elf with a vendetta against Santa releases evil spirits into the North Pole. Will the hoard of angry teddy bears take over the North Pole Power Plant, thus ruining Christmas? How can the elves possibly recover from this awful event? One of my favorite aspects of the book is that it includes a map of the North Pole with a compass, though the compass isn't very helpful considering every direction is "South." Come by today to check out this, or any of the other mind-blowing books we have here at the Goldstein! Books will change your life! |
